God’s standard is perfection.
In the military, men are trained to stand at attention. Shoulders back, chin out, head up. Standing straight.
If God were the commander, he would expect each of us to stand perfectly straight. Unfortunately, we can’t do this on our own.
One day Jesus was walking along and he met a woman who was doubled over with a “spirit of infirmity.”
And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. (Luke 13:11 NKJV)
For 18 years this woman walked around with her chin almost touching her knees. She was in dire straights. She could do absolutely nothing about it. Calling out to her, Jesus loosed her from the infirmity. Touching her back, He immediately made her back straight.
Isn’t this the way we all are before Christ calls us and touches our lives? We are bent over by sin, twisted up, and unable to free ourselves. Jesus is willing and able to set us free if we will accept His gift of salvation.
He will give us the ability to stand in the presence of God without shame.
