This summer, I spent two weeks at the Galilee Program in Lafayette, LA. While there, I was given the opportunity to lead a mentoring group, comprised of a handful of musically gifted young men. Interns at Galilee are introduced to inductive Bible study methods- and this year they studied the New Testament book of Philippians. Toward the end of the program, our group wrote a song summarizing what we had learned from this book.
Included in this post is a video of the song being performed by our group, the lyrics of the song, and a PDF attachment with the lyrics and guitar chords.
Give it a listen and let me know what you think!
To Live is Christ- Performance
To Live is Christ- Lyrics
Verse 1:
Grace to you and peace
Though trials may increase
In life or in death
I’ll serve Christ till final breath
Chorus 1:
No matter if I’m cast into a prison,
No matter the affliction of my chains.
No matter what I’ll go through,
No matter the pain;
Oh to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Verse 2:
Imitating Christ
A willing sacrifice
Though equal with God
He took on humble flesh and blood
Chorus 2:
The humble Servant stepped into our world
The humble son, the Father he obeyed
The humble savior died
The humble lamb was slain
Oh to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Verse 3:
In light of the cross
I count my life as loss
Reaching for the goal
Oh, I long to be made whole
Chorus 3:
I’m laying down my pride and my ambitions,
I’m laying down my foolishness and shame.
I’m laying down my pleasures,
I’m laying down my fame;
Oh to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Chorus 4:
Rejoice and let the peace of God enfold you
Rejoice and be content in everything
Rejoice and put on Jesus,
Rejoice and bear His name;
Oh to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Oh to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Oh to live is Christ and to die is gain.
