Paul only spent a few weeks in Thessalonica before persecution forced him to flee. But while he was there, he established a church and promised the believers that Jesus would be returning soon. After Paul left, some of the believers died, leaving the rest to questions Paul’s promise. They missed their friends and family members and weren’t sure how to think about Paul’s promise of Jesus’ return.
In chapter 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Paul wrote to encourage them that Jesus would, indeed return for his own one day and that in the mean time, they could find comfort in the hope that comes through faith in Jesus Christ.
The following is a sermon I preached at the FreeWay Bible Chapel on December 6, 2020.
