In Awe (poem)

When I came to the end of my weakness and pain,
and realized the death of Christ was my gain;
It’s in that moment I finally saw:
I didn’t need strength, I just needed awe.

But He gave me power and covered my shame,
and told me to go, proclaim his name.
I went at once after hearing the call,
and asked my neighbor, “do you feel the awe?”

I live with assurance: my life is not vain.
His Spirit lives in me, I am not the same.
I still make mistakes, still wrecked by the fall,
but God calls me “child” and I stand in awe.
