The Preeminence and Sufficiency of Jesus (Sermon)

The following is a sermon I preached at Cherrydale Bible Church on August 30, 2015.

Title: Colossians Intro

Passage: Colossians 1:1-2

Theme: The Preeminence and Sufficiency of Jesus

      1. Yeshua- Iesou- Jehova is Salvation
      2. Christ- Christos- Messiah- Anointed
      3. Apostle of, sent one.
    4. will of God (Doctrinal Minute: Trinity)
      1. God the father is the overseer. He makes the decisions, Christ executes them through the power of the Spirit.
      2. Ultimately, the will of God is that Jesus be glorified.
        1. Do you know the will of God for your life? Is Jesus glorified in your life?
    5. Timothy
      1. Paul loved Timothy. Despite his youth, imperfections, fear, health issues…
        1. Do you have a relationship like this?
      2. Timothy, like Sosthenes (1Cor.), did no co-write this letter. (Apostle)
    6.  Brother
      1. G80- Adelphos- From the same womb
      2. No liturgical structure here
  2. Audience
    1. Saints and faithful brethren in Christ
      1. Sacred- set apart ones
      2. trustworthy- keep on (1:23)
        1. Are you a saint who is faithful in Christ? A lack of joy follows those who are not in Him. (Drive across country, lack of joy)
    2. Colosse
      1. Located 100 Mi E of Ephesus in the Lycus river valley (Asia/ Asia Minor/Turkey)
      2. Paul had never been here
  3. “Aloha”
  1. Grace
    1. Unmerited favor from the Lord
      1. Have you received His grace?
    2. Peace
      1. Follows Grace. Peace is the overflow of a right relationship with Him.
    3. God our Father
      1. Those saints and faithful are now “brethren” because Christ has made them sons of God.
      2. 1 Jn 3:1  Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!
    4. Lord Jesus Christ
      1. Master (supreme in authority), Savior, Messiah
        1. Who is the supreme authority in your life?
