Righteous

Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: (‭Luke‬ ‭18‬:‭9‬ NKJV)

What follows this verse is a parable about two praying men. The Pharisee trusts that God will hear and accept him because of his righteousness (as compared with the “sinners” around him). The tax collector humbles himself and begs for mercy from God. Jesus clearly teaches that those who humble themselves before God will be exalted.

Let’s strive to give up self reliance, to pursue humility, and to love the sinful people around us.
